Supervision

Clinical Work is Difficult

You want to help your client, but sessions feel like they are at a standstill.

She was getting better in school and in her life but has become testy and irritated with you in each treatment for a while now. You have tried to consider different techniques – understanding, patience, insight, encouragement – but nothing seems to be moving the impasse between you.

You worry the patient will leave the treatment.

Consultation is Necessary for Clinicial Work

Without consultations, clinical work may get stale, at a minimum.

The worst case scenario is that it might become a destructive interaction. You and your patient lose the opportunity to work through something that is meaningful.

Getting another clinical viewpoint can help identify the possible emotional dynamics obstructing the therapeutic process and allow the clinician to use the new understanding to further help the patient .

I take a psychodynamic approach in supervision.

I have experience teaching psychotherapy with new therapists and consultations with more advanced clinicians.

Through presenting your clinical material, I can help you apply psychodynamic principles, if you are just starting your practice.

Or, if you are looking for an advanced consultation, we can talk in depth about your current clinical work through your detailed presentation of what is happening in the relationship.

Clinical Work Improves with Good Supervision

The willingness to open yourself up to sharing your clinical experience with your patient to a supervisor/consultant often increases your understanding of what is taking place in the therapy with your client/patient.

It is our responsibility to help our patient as much as we are able. Clinical consultation is an integral part of helping us be the best clinician we can become.
